Impulsive Breakdown Characteristics of Solid–Gas Interfaces

Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the breakdown behavior solid-gas interfaces are important for development, optimization, coordination insulation in practical high-voltage (HV) gas-insulated systems (GISs) that widely used power pulsed industries. However, despite significant research efforts focused on characterization parameters properties complex gas-filled HV systems, basic mechanisms underpin development discharges such topologies not fully understood. This lack is particularly noticeable case stressed with impulses. study aimed at experimental investigation interfaces, formed between solid dielectrics common gases: dry air, N2, CO2 atmospheric pressure. Four different solid-dielectric materials, PTFE, HDPE, Delrin, Macor, relative permittivities range from 2.1 to 6.3, were this work. The by these dielectric materials surrounding gases positive negative voltage time obtained all combinations using both impulses, a nominal rise ~1.9 μs. A digital camera operated open-shutter regime was obtain images spark channels classified according their propagation paths. results will help further can be optimization use GISs.
